Consumers should be referred to the Bureau of Automotive Repair’s Consumer Assistance Program options outlined on the Notice to Motorists sign (below) if their vehicle fails its Smog Check inspection.
If a consumer’s vehicle needs extensive repairs, Vehicle Retirement may be their best option. Vehicle Retirement applicants may be eligible to retire their vehicle for $1,000 or $1,500, depending on their income. Notifying customers of all available options provides a higher level of customer service that may translate into future business. CAP Vehicle Retirement information and the online application are available at www.bar.ca.gov.
