New Auto Shop Locator Puts Vehicle Services on the Map

In August 2020, the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) launched the Auto Shop Locator. This new mobile-friendly search tool helps consumers easily find auto repair and other services in their area.

The locator displays shops on an interactive map using the consumer’s location or a specific city or zip code. Consumers select from one of three service categories, including Smog Check, brake and lamp inspections, and automotive repair.

Service categories are tied to primary and secondary business type information (e.g., auto body, air conditioning, transmission repair, etc.) provided by automotive repair dealers upon licensure or renewal. Licensees seeking to update their business type information are encouraged to complete a Change of Name/Address/Corporate Officers or Directors form. A mechanism for licensees to designate additional business types is being considered for future enhancements.

BAR is excited to offer the new Auto Shop Locator and looks forward to the development of future tools and online resources benefiting consumers, licensees, and other BAR stakeholders.
