On Monday, August 31, 2009 at 10:00 AM, the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) will conduct a public hearing concerning proposed regulations regarding the following:

Diesel Powered Vehicle Inspection and Repair
Sublet Repairs
Smog Check Inspection Procedures Manual
Fuel Pipe Restrictor Dowel Gauge and
Visible Smoke Test Procedures

The hearing will be held at the:

Department of Consumers Affairs
Hearing Room
1625 North Market
Sacramento, CA 95834

Any person interested may present statements or arguments orally or in writing relevant to the proposed action at the above-mentioned hearing. Written comments also will be accepted by BAR until September 8, 2009 at 5:00 PM.

As part of this regulatory process, a new draft of the Smog Check Inspection Procedures Manual (August 2009) is now available. The revised manual includes diesel inspection procedures, as well as revised Visible Smoke Test procedures for gasoline powered vehicles. The manual is located on the Smog Check Web site, www.smogcheck.ca.gov, under ?Hot Topics?.

Diesel vehicle inspections and the revised Visible Smoke Test procedures are scheduled to begin January 1, 2010.
