Initial Brake & Lamp Station License Application
Step 1: What type of license do I need?
There is one class of Lamp Station license and three classes of Brake Station licenses. You can apply for both a Lamp Station license AND a Brake Station license using the same application (Step 4 will tell you how to get the application and where to send it). When you fill out the application form, you will need to check off the class of Lamp and/or Brake Station license you are applying for.
Classes of Lamp Station Licenses (per California code of Regulations §3315)
- Class A official lamp adjusting stations shall be equipped to test, inspect, adjust, and repair all lamps and related electrical systems on all vehicles.
Classes of Brake Station Licenses (per California code of Regulations §3320)
- Class A official brake adjusting stations shall be equipped to test, inspect, adjust, and repair all brakes and brake systems on all vehicles.
- Class B official brake adjusting stations shall be equipped to test, inspect, adjust, and repair all brakes and brake systems on all buses, trucks, truck tractors, trailers, and semi-trailers.
- Class C official brake adjusting stations shall be equipped to test, inspect, adjust, and repair all brakes and brake systems on all trucks or truck tractors having a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of less than 10,000 pounds, all trailers and semi-trailers that do not use compressed air or vacuum to actuate the brakes, and all passenger vehicles including motorcycles and motor-driven cycles.
