Step 4: Do I need to take an examination?

No.

The requirement for the Intern License is completion of the Bureau's Basic Clear Air Car Course training (68 hrs - within the last 12 months).This license allows an individual, under the direction of a supervising Licensed Smog Check technician, to perform repairs or adjustments (no inspections) to the emission control systems on vehicles subject to the Smog Check Program.

Intern licenses are valid for a period of 24 months from the date of issue. An Intern license is a non-renewable two (2) year license and shall be issued to an individual only once.

Warning: All applicants must have required experience and training before they will be issued a license.
