Smog Check Technician: Intern Applicant
Step 3: How do I apply?
To apply as an Intern Smog Check Technician, follow the steps below:
Complete the application for licensure and mail it to the address listed on the application. There are three ways to get the application for licensure:
- If you meet all the requirements in this area, then download the application online. Click here to download.
- Contact the Licensing Unit at (916) 255-3145 to obtain the application.
- Visit a local field office to pick up an application
Warning: The application must be submitted to the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) for processing, at the address listed on the application. You may complete the application on your computer, but an original signature and date are required. It is your responsibility to ensure that you complete the entire application and submit it with the correct fees. Submission of an incomplete or incorrect application will result in a delay in processing your application.
Remember: All applications go through a review process. California law requires all applications be processed through Family Support, to verify that all family support obligations are met prior to being eligible for licensure. You should allow 2-4 weeks for the application review process.
What if there is a problem with my application?
If there is a problem with your application, you may receive a Deficiency Letter from BAR requesting clarification or further information. In most cases, the Deficiency Letter can be faxed back to BAR with the requested information, to speed up the process.
If the problems with an application are serious enough, the application may be rejected. If an application is rejected, the rejection letter will describe the applicants rights regarding a possible appeal or reconsideration of the application.
